What a Crock!

Image
Most of my readers probably know how much I like to go to thrift stores in search of treasures of one kind or another. I keep my eyes peeled for that certain item that I have my heart set upon. It  can take months or even years to hit the right place at the just the right time to find it--that thing I have been searching for without having to give up an arm and a leg to make it my own. I post today about one such item I have been looking for. A week or so ago, I stopped by a little shop that I sometimes forget about. It is tucked away in an inconspicuous place and I glanced down and spied something that looked very much like something my heart had been desiring. It was sitting on the very bottom shelf of one of the displays. I figured it was a flimsy reproduction of some kind. I reached down, expecting to quickly lift it up to check it out. To my amazement, the thing was heavy--very heavy! I finally managed to get the thing on to a higher shelf, more at eye level, so I could exam...

A Fun Day at the Thrift Stores with My B.F.F.

Image
Yesterday was a really good day! I have said this before, but one of the things I enjoy most is visiting thrift stores and hunting for hidden treasures. When my B.F.F., Harriette, can go with me, it is much more fun. Please allow me to share with you the great things I found. I found this pretty and very large (28 X 22 inches) framed print at the newest S.P.C.A. thrift store in town. Framed Print of  Children at Play from S.P.C.A. Thrift Store Everything in this store was fifty percent off yesterday, so this $15.00 picture cost just $7.50! I have not measured it yet, but it is very large. It is just a print and the frame has some dings, here and there, but I love the children in it.  I haven' t yet decided where I am going to hang it, but it will look very good in most any room. I snatched it up and am happy that I did because it instantly spoke to the heart of this grandmother of five! I also picked up this wonderful plate with a picture, in red, of a man toi...

Tutorial-How To Make A Chalkboard Tray

Image
Dear Fellow Bloggers, Pictured below is a big silver-plated tray my friend Harriette bought for $2.99 on our last thrifting expedition. You may recall this tray from a previous post  Treasures-Some Lost, Some Found .  It came home with me. It had a loose handle, which I reattached with a little screw in the back where the old screw had fallen out.  Today was the first day for a while when it wasn't rainy or windy or both here. I took advantage of the better weather this morning to convert this tray into a chalkboard for "Smokin Stacks." Harriette, her son and her husband participate in barbecue competition in several states and Smokin Stacks is the name of their team. The idea is to use the chalkboard to write down their menus during competitions. You probably know this, but I will say it anyway. I didn't invent the idea for making chalkboard trays. You may have seen any number of them in different shops and on blogs. That being said, the following is a li...

Goodwill Treasures

Image
I am sharing a pic of some Goodwill finds I purchased a while back. I think the mirror looks quite "french" so I naturally loved it so paid a little more(about $9)than I normally would. I thought about painting it but decided I like the black and gold frame as it is. The glass museum dome was something I could not pass up either, so I think I paid around $10. for it on the same day. When I purchased it there was an awful dried arrangement inside it stuck in a little "stump" which was glued to its base, thus the ugly marks after it was removed. I am in the process of painting the base white and will put something pretty under the glass, but haven't decided just what yet. I will send pictures of where I hung the mirror, which is quite heavy and also of the finished glass dome. Please excuse the junk(including the boxes of wipes) in the corner. Part and parcel of being the caregiver of my grands!
