A Beautiful Spring Day at Biltmore House and Gardens and Conservatory

Image
In an earlier post, I mentioned that we, along with some family and friends, took a day trip together last Friday. We drove from our home town of Aiken, South Carolina to Asheville, North Carolina to visit the spectacular Biltmore House and Gardens. This was our first visit to the Biltmore in the spring season. Our last visit was in late winter of last year (2015). During that visit Biltmore was hosting a wonderful exhibit of costumes from the Downton Abbey series. If you missed that post, you can read about it here!  The Biltmore house which, in my opinion, is very much like a castle. It was the perfect setting for the Dressing Downton exhibition. I adore the Downton Abbey series and this exhibition was absolutely dreamy for me! In this most recent visit, there were still emerging tulip bulbs popping up everywhere in the gardens and the daffodils were in full bloom.  For us, the experience was well worth the few hours it took to drive to get there. We arrived at o...

Yesterday was a gorgeous springlike Day. The day was made even more beautiful because it was spent with family and friends in Asheville, North Carolina visiting the beautiful  Biltmore House and Gardens . There were nine of us on this trip. My husband and I, our daughter Stephanie and her husband Jason and all three of our granddaughters. We were totally thrilled that our beautiful friends, Larry and Harriette could also join us for the day trip to this awesome place. It was our first visit this time of year and it was great because early spring flowers were abundant on the grounds and the wonderful Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film exhibition is in progress. Sour Cream Vanilla Almond Pound Cake Topped with Fresh Strawberries

Image
I have said it before, my husband loves strawberries. Strawberries and peaches are pretty much neck and neck in the race for for being his favorite fruits. I love both of these luscious fruits myself, but I think he is even crazier about them than me. It is not strawberry season in South Carolina yet, so when someone where my husband works asked if he would care to split a flat with them last week, he quickly agreed to do so. When he came home with them late last week, we gave our two daughters two pints each and kept the remaining two pints for ourselves. These strawberries had just arrived in Aiken from Plant City, Florida! Strawberries from Plant City, Florida These strawberries are very good. Not only are they very large, but they are quite sweet and flavorful. The first thing I thought of was to bake a pound cake to pair up with these luscious beauties. In short time, I set about to making a Sour Cream Pound Cake. I used my recipe I posted about here . I did make ...
